The games and teams recognized for the 3rd edition of the Diverse Voices, New Stories Challenge are:
Developed by: Draknek & Friends (United Kingdom)
A Monster’s Expedition is an adorable and relaxing open-world puzzle adventure for monsters who love to learn about humans. By pushing trees over to create pathways, you’ll explore hundreds of islands near and far to learn about the history of “humanity.”
Draknek & Friends is proud to include women, members of the LGBTQIA+ and gender non-conforming community, and developers with disabilities, reflecting a broad spectrum of identities often underrepresented in the global gaming industry. They produce the Draknek New Voices Puzzle Grant, a grant for underrepresented developers working on designing puzzle games. This grant supported a cohort of developers in 2022 and has returned for 2024.
Developed by: Navegante (Mexico)
A single-player, side-scrolling adventure where players alternate control between three siblings — Greak, Adara, and Raydel — each with unique abilities essential for solving puzzles, battling enemies, and progressing through the story.
Navegante is an independent video games development studio located in Mexico, with collaborators in Argentina and Ecuador. They create games with compelling narratives that explore themes like family, teamwork, and perseverance.
Developed by: Die Gute Fabrik (Denmark)
Published by: Akupara Games (US)
An adventure game where the juicy personal drama is just as important as the high-stakes adventure part of the story. Make new friends; plant musical gardens; attend BBQs, band nights and boat trips; and embark on a final spiritual journey to save everyone from the strange darkness at the heart of it all.
Die Gute Fabrik is a small games studio based in Copenhagen and New York City. They take classic play forms from the past – be the physical folk games from the playground or adventure games from old consoles – and breathe new life into them with 21st-century technology and their own sense of style and storytelling. They strive to develop games that are hand-crafted, synaesthetic, offbeat, and above all, personal.
